Council Announce Debut Album 'This Day, Every Day', Share New Single 'mirrorworld'
Council (Gabriel Kahane & Pekka Kuusisto) announce their debut full-length album 'This Day, Every Day', arriving 30 October via Bedroom Community. Second single 'mirrorworld' is out now alongside physical pre-orders on CD and Vinyl.
Council, the collaborative duo of American songwriter Gabriel Kahane and Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, have officially announced their debut full-length studio album, This Day, Every Day, scheduled for worldwide release on 30 October 2026 via Bedroom Community.
The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s second single, “mirrorworld”, available today across all streaming platforms and Bandcamp, with physical pre-orders open across digital, Digipak CD, and 12” vinyl LP formats.

“mirrorworld”
Following the release of lead single “Panic (feat. Elizabeth Ziman)”, “mirrorworld” plunges into the psychological friction of an ambient, hyper-mediated culture. Featuring synth and drum programming by Nick Sanborn (Sylvan Esso), the track underpins Kahane and Kuusisto’s intertwining vocals and violin with cycling, queasy harmonies that examine contemporary digital performance and online echo chambers:
“Welcome to the mirror world
Where the wellness expert works her ring light
Warning of some sinister cabal”— Lyrics from “mirrorworld”
Recorded in Reykjavík at Greenhouse Studios and Flora Recording & Playback in Portland, Oregon, with co-production, engineering, and mixing by longtime collaborator Joseph Lorge, “mirrorworld” distils the duo’s distinct studio method: acoustic instruments pushed through tactile distortion and analog tape manipulation to mirror internal disorientation.

The Album: This Day, Every Day
The seeds of Council were planted in 2015 when Kuusisto met Kahane and began quizzing him about a subtle orchestration detail on one of his records. A decade of transatlantic writing retreats between Finland and the United States followed, cultivating a shared songwriting language structured along a Lennon/McCartney framework—one member captaining each song, with both sharing equal authorship and credit.
Across twelve tracks, piano, acoustic and electric violin, harmonium, percussion, electronics, and close, finely shaped vocals form a sound world that moves between chamber intimacy and expansive tension. The record confronts personal and global pressures: cycles of mental illness, grief, fatherhood, war, and the numbing desensitisation of modern communication.
“While I’ve always enjoyed the small size and rich talent in Finnish music, finding a deep collaboration with someone geographically so far away, and getting to talk and write about things both very intimate and terrifying, and totally global and terrifying, is awesome. Council is the two of us trying to make sense of a number of things by exposing vulnerable parts of ourselves to each other.”
— Pekka Kuusisto
“When you write for a specific person, even if you’re responsible for notes and rhythms, your collaborator has given you access to impulses you wouldn’t have had on your own.”
— Gabriel Kahane
Additional contributors to the album include Elizabeth Ziman, Eliza Bagg, Samuli Kosminen, Logan Strosahl, and Ted Poor.
