Valgeir Sigurðsson & Helgi Jónsson
Valgeir Sigurðsson is an Icelandic composer, producer and musician based in Reykjavík. Acoustic instruments, electronics and the possibilities of the recording studio are central to his music, which spans albums, concert works, film and the stage.
He founded Greenhouse Studios in 1997 and founded Bedroom Community together with Nico Muhly and Ben Frost in 2006. His work as a producer and collaborator includes recordings with Björk, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and many of the label’s artists.
His solo albums on Bedroom Community include Ekvílibríum (2007), Draumalandið (2010), Architecture of Loss (2012) and Dissonance (2017).
His collaborations include a longstanding musical partnership with viola da gamba player Liam Byrne, exploring the possibilities of gut strings and electronics in recordings and live performance. He also works closely with violinist Daniel Pioro, for whom he wrote Dust, a three-part work for violin and electronics featured on Pioro’s debut album of the same name.
These partnerships extend to Perpetual Motion, made with visual artist Sigurður Guðjónsson for Iceland’s exhibition at the 2022 Venice Biennale, and Isabelle Lewis, the trio he forms with Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe and Elisabeth Klinck. Their debut album, Greetings, was released in 2024.
His stage works include the opera We Are in Time (2020) for Scottish Ensemble and Láhppon/Lost (2025) for the Norwegian National Ballet.
