Best known for his masterful production work for the likes of Björk and Will Oldham, here Sigurdsson has composed the soundtrack to a sobering documentary about the exploitation of Iceland’s natural resources. Beautiful and compelling, Nico Muhly artfully conducts the small orchestra through understated moments of expansive beauty, gentle piano and subtle strings that swoon and surge into an ominous force, made all the stronger by the electronic wizardry of Ben Frost, whose crackly textures on ‘Nowhere Land’ and ‘Helter Smelter’ add to the underlying sense of unease. Sigurdsson hasn't just created an accompaniment to a film, but an incredible album in its own right.
