Nico Muhly has been keeping himself busy lately, to say the least. Amongst numerous projects he made arrangements for Antony and The Johnsons (The Crying Light, released on January 21) and Grizzly Bear (Veckatimest, to be released on May 26). Here you can read some of his thoughts on making arrangements, comparing it to dressing somebody up.
In April and May Nico will be playing a few concerts in Europe and USA, accompanied by Sam Amidon, Nadia Sirota, Thomas Bartlett and Valgeir Sigurðsson (Click on the link of each concert for further information).

The Journal of Popular Noise (Issue 8), featuring Ben Frost + Bora Yoon is out and about!
The album was reviewed in January's WIRE magazine, and this is one of the things they had to say:
"the Yoon/Frost sides are a brilliant mix of whispers and moistly aggressive-ambient electronic whatsis…”
The Journal of Popular Noise is a semi annual audio magazine inspired by the traditions of pop music, printed periodicals, and the delight of a finely crafted artifact. Within each edition there are three 45 rpm records, each by a different artist but conforming to the same editorial structure. Each packaged in a hand folded and numbered limited edition letterpress printed sleeve.

The media has started to smell the news of Nico and Valgeir collaborating on the music for the world's first "ScentOpera", to be premiered at the Guggenheim Museum on May 31st. The libretto consists of scents by fragrance designer Christophe Laudamiel and forms a narrative together with the music. Director is Stewart Matthew.
Time Out NY: We Smell A Hit
...Now, in the latest salvo of Muhly’s comprehensive assault on the realm of the senses, he’s teaming up with director Stewart Matthew, fragrance designer Christophe Laudamiel and musician-producer Valgeir Sigurdsson for Green Aria, the world’s first “ScentOpera,” at the Guggenheim Museum May 31 and June 1. According to the press release, audience members will listen to music by Muhly and Sigurdsson in a darkened room while a “scent organ,” designed by Fläkt Woods, triggers “scent microphones” attached to each seat, which will emit suggestive scents to tell the story. We’re oddly fascinated by the notion…but then, we’ve always been suckers for a pungent gimmick....

Ben Frost’s new album has now been officially finished and mastered after two years of fruitful labor! Bedroom Community hosted a small listening party at Greenhouse Studios last Sunday night where Ben nourished his guests with his infamous spaghetti bolognese followed by an entrancing musical experience.
The album features a host of talented musicians such as Amiina (strings), Borgar Magnason (double bass), Helgi Hrafn Jónsson (trombone), Jeremy Gara (drums)...as well as the Bedroom Community usual suspects!
Ben will be touring Europe in May, watch this space for details on the album and the tour.
